Wife Suffers Injuries Requiring Two Weeks of Treatment
A husband who assaulted his pregnant spouse due to what he claimed were excessive demands has been sentenced to a fine.

In August 2023, Mr. A became angry during an argument with his pregnant wife, Ms. B, over what he described as her excessive demands, and assaulted her. As a result, Ms. B sustained injuries that required approximately two weeks of medical treatment.
In September 2024, during another argument, Mr. A assaulted and threatened Ms. B. Three months later, he again assaulted Ms. B and threw her mobile phone on the floor, breaking it.
The court of first instance stated, "The defendant’s act of causing injury while the victim was pregnant is subject to heightened criticism," and imposed a fine of 7 million won.

The appellate court, which reviewed the prosecutor's claim that the sentence was too lenient, stated, "On the contrary, during the appeals process, the victim has expressed her wish to maintain the marriage and has indicated that she does not desire punishment for the defendant. Furthermore, the defendant has repeatedly shown remorse and pledged not to reoffend," and dismissed the appeal.
