SK hynix Evacuates All Employees Immediately After Fire
Thousands of employees were urgently evacuated after a fire broke out and toxic gas was leaked at the SK hynix Cheongju plant.
According to fire authorities and SK hynix on June 1, the fire occurred at around 10:32 a.m. in the gas room on the sixth floor that connects the M15 and M15X plants within Cheongju Campus 4.
The fire was quickly extinguished as the sprinkler system was activated, but some fluorine gas, which is harmful to humans, was released. Fire authorities stated that six people were injured in the process.
The fire department is investigating the exact cause of the incident, keeping in mind the possibility that the number of injured could increase.
SK hynix evacuated all 3,600 employees from the M15 and M15X plants immediately after the gas leak.
An SK hynix official stated, "We promptly evacuated all personnel and the fire has been extinguished," adding, "We have reported the incident to the relevant agencies and will work with authorities to determine the cause and other details."

The official further explained, "There are no issues with equipment operation, so there will be no disruption to production. Once the safety inspection is complete, employees will return. The injured employees have been transferred to the in-house medical center for treatment."
