President Lee: "Illegal Real Estate Speculation and Tax Evasion Must End... We Will Break Free from the Republic of Unearned Income"
On June 1, President Lee Jae-myung stated, "Illegal real estate speculation and tax evasion will no longer be tolerated," adding, "We will make sure to escape from being a republic of unearned income from real estate."
On this day, President Lee shared a news article on his X account (formerly Twitter) that reported "8 out of 10 reports of real estate tax evasion are concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area," and made these remarks.
According to the article, since the launch of the National Tax Service’s 'Real Estate Tax Evasion Reporting Center' in November last year, a total of 780 reports were received over five months. Of these, 81% were submitted to district offices in the Seoul metropolitan area.
