Russian Media: About 7,000 Russian Tourists Visited North Korea Last Year... Closer Ties and Expanding Civilian Exchanges
According to a high-ranking Russian government official, approximately 7,000 Russian tourists visited North Korea last year. As North Korea and Russia have strengthened their ties following Russia's deployment in the war with Ukraine, civilian exchanges between the two countries are also expanding.
According to Yonhap News Agency, on May 31 (local time), Alexander Kozlov, Russia's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, said in an interview with the state-run TASS news agency that "interest in North Korean culture and the variety of resort and tourism options are making it increasingly popular."
Minister Kozlov highlighted Masikryong Ski Resort and the Wonsan coastal tourism district as popular tourist destinations in North Korea. He serves as the Russian chairman of the Russia-North Korea Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.

However, regarding the outlook for the number of Russian tourists expected to visit North Korea this year, he said, "Since the summer holiday season is just about to begin, it is too early to discuss statistics," adding, "We plan to analyze the numbers later."
