Gumi City to Host 'Sweet Romantic Night Market' with National Singing Contest and Enriched Experience Events
Strengthening Cultural Content
Focused Review of Visitor Flow and Safety Response Systems
Through the 'Sweet Night Market' event, Gumi City is actively promoting itself nationwide and working to revitalize the local commercial districts.
On May 29, Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province held the final briefing session for the 'Gumi Sweet Romantic Night Market' at the City Hall’s International Trade and Cooperation Office. About 20 people, including Acting Mayor Jung Sunghyun and members of the organizing committee, attended to review preparations and safety management plans for the event.

During the briefing session, participants comprehensively reviewed the night market’s operational plans, visitor flow, safety response systems, and the structure of cultural performances.
The city plans to operate this year’s night market as a cultural venue that combines food, performances, and hands-on activities, with the aim of revitalizing the traditional markets and supporting the recovery of the local commercial sector.
The 'Gumi Sweet Romantic Night Market' will take place at Saemaeul Central Market from June 12 to June 27, and at Indong Market from July 3 to July 18. The event will be held every Friday and Saturday during these periods.
This year, a new national singing contest connected to the night market has been introduced to attract greater interest.
The first round of preliminaries will be held on May 31 at the Beatles Music Warehouse in Indong-dong, followed by the second round on June 13 at Saemaeul Central Market. The final round will take place on July 4 at the special stage in Indong Market.
The grand prize winner will receive a cash award of 1 million won and an official singer certificate.
The experience programs have also been enhanced. One-day class booths will offer activities such as making eco-friendly cloth-wrapped tote bags, creating 'Love for Dokdo' terrariums, and making wish calligraphy lanterns. Participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis through advance reservations via Naver Form.
Given the high level of interest in these experience programs, the city expects that registration may close early and encourages citizens to sign up quickly.
The cultural performances have also become more diverse.
Interactive content such as taekwondo demonstration performances, choir performances, and random play dance events will be expanded to attract family visitors and young people alike.
Various live events will also be held throughout the markets, allowing merchants and visitors to enjoy the festivities together.
Acting Mayor Jung Sunghyun stated, "I hope the Gumi Sweet Romantic Night Market will serve as an opportunity to invigorate traditional markets and local businesses," adding, "We will increase the impact on the local economy by linking the demand for regional tourism, including the Daegyeong Line, to local consumption."
