A fire broke out at a shipyard in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, prompting fire authorities to issue Response Level 1 and bring the blaze under control after about 2 hours and 20 minutes. View original imageAccording to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters and Mokpo Fire Station on May 31, a fire occurred at a shipyard in Yeonsan-dong, Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do at around 7:09 p.m. on the previous day.
Upon receiving the report, fire authorities determined that the fire was large in scale and posed a significant risk of spreading to nearby buildings. At 7:20 p.m., they declared 'Response Level 1,' mobilizing all personnel and equipment from the local fire station to the scene. A total of 33 firefighting vehicles and 99 personnel were deployed to establish a defensive line and battle the blaze.
Through concentrated firefighting efforts, the authorities managed to bring the main fire under control and complete the initial extinguishing operation by 9:33 p.m., 2 hours and 24 minutes after the fire broke out.
The fire caused property damage, with three buildings within the shipyard, including the assembly plant, either completely destroyed or severely damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as workers and others on site evacuated promptly.
Fire authorities suspect that the blaze initially started on a coastal fishing net vessel located inside one of the shipyard's buildings.
