Takaichi Reiterates Willingness for Summit with Kim Jong Un at Japanese Abduction Victims' Rally

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reiterated her position that she will not rule out any options, including a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, to secure the return of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea.
According to Kyodo News and other sources, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed this intention at the "National Rally to Demand the Return of Abduction Victims by North Korea," held in Tokyo, Japan, on May 30. She stated, "During my term, I will find a breakthrough and resolve the abduction issue no matter what."
Prime Minister Takaichi said she wants to take a courageous step forward with Chairman Kim for the sake of both nations' citizens, peoples, and the young people of the future.
She also stressed that the government is "approaching this issue with utmost seriousness, making sure not to miss even the smallest opportunity, so that we can achieve concrete results as quickly as possible—even a day or an hour sooner."
Since her inauguration, Prime Minister Takaichi has repeatedly expressed her willingness to hold a summit meeting with Chairman Kim to resolve the issue of Japanese abductees.

The rally was hosted by the families of abduction victims, including the family of Megumi Yokota, who was abducted in 1977, as well as the support group Rescue Association. According to estimates by the organizers, about 800 people attended. The participants adopted a resolution urging Chairman Kim to make a decisive move for the return of the abductees to Japan.
