Every Show Sold Out in North America... How Much Did BTS Earn from the Tour?
64% Increase Compared to Previous U.S. Tours
Total Revenue of 114.8 Billion KRW from Eight Shows Since April
The world tour ‘ARIRANG’ by the group BTS is generating massive economic effects, creating what is being called the ‘BTSnomics’ phenomenon. It has been tallied that approximately 840,000 fans attended the first leg of the group’s North American tour.
On May 30, Big Hit Music announced that BTS held a total of 15 concerts across five cities in North America—Tampa, El Paso, Mexico City, Stanford, and Las Vegas—beginning with the show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on April 25.
Every show on this North American tour sold out. Additional performances were scheduled in Tampa, Stanford, and Las Vegas, each adding one more concert, and these extra shows also sold out. The total audience for the first North American leg was approximately 840,000.
According to the American music outlet Billboard, the average revenue per show in Tampa and El Paso was $12.1 million (about 18.2 billion KRW). This is an increase of around 64% compared to BTS’s previous U.S. tours, ‘Love Yourself: Speak Yourself’ and ‘Permission to Dance on Stage.’
Billboard also reported that BTS ranked No. 1 on the ‘Top Tours’ chart by earning $76.2 million (about 114.8 billion KRW) and selling 417,000 tickets across eight shows held in April in Goyang, Tokyo, and Tampa. The three concerts in Tampa set the highest revenue and attendance records for a single venue in April.
Cities that hosted the concerts are projecting significant economic impact. Local media in Las Vegas estimated that the BTS concerts will contribute up to $200 million to the regional economy. Florida broadcasters projected an economic effect of $800 million to $900 million for the Tampa shows, while the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce forecasted an impact of approximately $107.5 million.
BTS will continue their tour at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on June 12–13. The group will then head to Europe, starting with Madrid, Spain, and is scheduled to begin the second leg of the North American tour in August.
