White House: "Trump Will Only Agree to Deals That Benefit the U.S. and Meet His Red Lines"
Situation Room Meeting Concludes After Two Hours
"Iran Can Never Possess Nuclear Weapons"
Final Decision on MOU Postponed?
On May 29 (local time), the White House stated that even if U.S. President Donald Trump negotiates with Iran, "he will only agree to a deal that benefits the United States and satisfies his red lines."
A White House official made this statement in response to the outcome of a meeting on Iran negotiations, which President Trump held with his senior security team in the White House Situation Room that day. The official stressed, "Iran can never possess nuclear weapons."
The Situation Room meeting that day concluded after about two hours. Just before the meeting began, President Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, saying, "I will be holding a meeting in the Situation Room right now to make a final decision." However, he did not release the results after the meeting ended.
The New York Times (NYT) reported that "President Trump postponed making a final decision on Iran's proposal." It is being interpreted that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for ending hostilities with Iran did not fully meet the conditions set by President Trump, in his judgment.
