Yongin Parents’ Association of 100: "Sangil Lee Protects Semiconductors, Parents Protect Sangil Lee"
Yongin Parents’ Association of 100 Announces Support for Sangil Lee
"Sangil Lee, a Proven Education-Focused Candidate Who Has Remained Present in the Field and Communicated with Citizens"
As various sectors continue to announce their support for Sangil Lee, candidate for mayor of Yongin Special City from the People Power Party, local parents in Yongin have also come forward with a public endorsement.
On May 29, the Yongin Parents’ Association of 100 visited candidate Sangil Lee’s campaign office to express their support, stating, "He is a proven candidate who best understands the community and the realities of education."
The Yongin Parents’ Association of 100 explained, "After seeing that on the 6th of this month, 1,054 parents of elementary, middle, and high school students in Yongin declared their support for Sangil Lee, we felt compelled to join as well."
They also criticized Hyun Geun-taek, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, saying, "At a meeting with the parents association of a special school, he remarked, 'Was Heungdeok a part of Yongin?' revealing his lack of understanding of the region," and added, "We will firmly reject candidates who do not know the local area."
They continued, "It is an insult to the citizens that, after considering a bid for the National Assembly in Seongnam and then coming to Yongin to run for mayor following controversy over sexual harassment remarks. The basics for a local government leader are understanding and affection for the region, but seeing him unable to even correctly identify his own home address in Yongin left us deeply disappointed."
They went on to say, "Yongin needs a responsible candidate who truly understands the city and has a sense of belonging," emphasizing, "We support Sangil Lee, an education-focused candidate who has remained present in the field and consistently communicated with citizens."
One of the parent representatives commented, "During his tenure, Sangil Lee continuously held meetings with principals of elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as principals of special education schools and parent representatives, striving to reflect the voices of the educational field in his policies."
They continued, "Parents in Yongin will not be deceived by candidates hastily assembled for personal political gain," adding, "Sangil Lee will protect the semiconductor industry, and parents will protect Sangil Lee."
During the meeting, a variety of opinions were also exchanged regarding current educational issues in Yongin.
