Gyeongnam Police Agency Announces Special Crackdown on Drunk Driving Throughout Province in June and July
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will launch a special crackdown on drunk driving throughout the province from June 1 to July 31, 2026.
The agency announced on May 29, 2026, that it will conduct a large-scale crackdown on drunk driving, as outdoor activities and gatherings are increasing due to the clear weather.
The crackdown will be carried out by identifying vulnerable areas in each region and will take place both day and night, including morning commutes when people may still be under the influence from the previous night.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, the number of drunk driving traffic accidents has been on the decline in recent years, with 769 cases in 2023, 680 cases in 2024, and 585 cases in 2025. As of May 27, 2026, there have been 196 cases.
However, the police emphasized that because drunk driving accidents tend to result in fatal consequences, they plan to take proactive measures to manage the issue.
