Hoshino Resorts Risonare Shimonoseki Launches "Fukusake Room" Concept Room
Fugu and Nihonshu-Themed Experience
On May 29, Hoshino Resorts announced that its resort hotel brand "Risonare" has launched a new concept room, the "Fukusake Room," at its latest facility, Hoshino Resorts Risonare Shimonoseki, themed around fugu (blowfish) and nihonshu (Japanese sake).
Positioned as a "Strait Designer's Hotel," Risonare Shimonoseki is introducing a new accommodation experience through this concept room, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the local gourmet and sake culture of Shimonoseki with all five senses.
The "Fukusake Room" is limited to three rooms on the top floor of the hotel. Inside each room, there is a decorative wall made of stacked "masu"—traditional Japanese wooden sake cups—and an art panel designed to resemble fugu fins. The room layout also features panoramic views of the Kanmon Strait, offering guests a visual experience of Shimonoseki’s local culture.
Guests staying in the concept room can also enjoy an exclusive "nihonshu pairing" experience. In collaboration with Shimonoseki Shuzo, a traditional local brewery, the room provides three types of beverages: an original nihonshu developed for this room, sparkling nihonshu, and amazake. Each drink is paired with a selection of snacks and sake cups that complement the beverages.

At the center of the room, a "horigotatsu" (a sunken heated table) provides a relaxing space for guests to stretch out their legs and unwind in the evening. Additionally, an original "Fuku Trump" card game inspired by the fugu on display at the Shimonoseki City Aquarium Kaikyokan is available, adding a playful element to the stay. These features are designed to offer more than just simple accommodation, enabling guests to naturally experience the region’s culture and gourmet delights.
