On the 29th, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced that it had commenced the "first concrete placement" on the upper part of the foundation ground for the Shin Hanul Unit 4 reactor building. The first concrete placement marks the start of building structural and internal works after completing site leveling and excavation, and is considered a key process in nuclear power plant construction.
Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 have undergone site excavation work since receiving construction approval in September 2024. Among them, Shin Hanul Unit 3 began its first concrete placement earlier, in May last year. For Shin Hanul Unit 4, the plan is to move on to structural construction, equipment installation, and a series of phased tests, aiming for completion in 2033.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power expects that, once completed, Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 will supply electricity equivalent to approximately 46% of the annual power demand in the North Gyeongsang Province region. In a time of increasing instability in the global energy supply chain, these units are anticipated to play a significant role in strengthening energy security and expanding stable power supply infrastructure.
