U.S. Delegation to Visit South Korea June 2-3 for Follow-up Talks on Security Issues Including Nuclear Submarines
A U.S. whole-of-government delegation will visit South Korea for two days starting June 2, 2026, to negotiate with South Korea on security matters, including nuclear-powered submarines (nuclear subs) and expanding rights related to nuclear fuel enrichment and reprocessing. This visit comes about seven months after the agreement reached between the leaders of South Korea and the United States in October 2025.
On May 29, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea and the U.S. Department of State announced that a launch meeting will be held in Seoul from June 2 to 3, 2026, to discuss follow-up measures in the security sector as part of the Joint Fact Sheet (JFS) from the South Korea-U.S. summit.
The South Korean delegation will be led by First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Yunju and will include officials from the Presidential National Security Office (NSC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.
The U.S. delegation will include Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, as well as officials from the White House NSC, Department of State, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense.

The U.S. Department of State also announced Deputy Secretary Hooker's visit to South Korea through its website. A spokesperson for the Department of State stated, "The South Korea-U.S. alliance is a key pillar supporting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and across the Indo-Pacific region," adding, "The two countries will discuss a wide range of bilateral and global issues to strengthen the extensive and ongoing alliance between the United States and South Korea, including security and economic cooperation."
