Anthropic Valuation Hits $1.4 Trillion, Surpasses OpenAI
The valuation of Anthropic, the developer of the chatbot Claude, has approached $1 trillion. With its successful large-scale fundraising, Anthropic has surpassed OpenAI to become the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence (AI) startup.
On the 28th (local time), Anthropic announced that it had raised $65 billion in its Series H funding round. After this investment, the company’s valuation was assessed at $965 billion, which is about KRW 1,440 trillion.
This funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Green Oaks, and Sequoia Capital. Anthropic’s valuation has soared by more than 2.5 times in just over three months, up from $380 billion in February. It also surpassed the $852 billion valuation OpenAI achieved at the end of March.
Notably, Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron were also revealed to have participated in this funding round. Anthropic highlighted the significance of this partnership, emphasizing that these companies play a critical role in the global supply chain for memory, storage, and logic semiconductors. The company added, “This partnership will help us reliably scale our computing capabilities to meet customer demand.”
The competition for higher valuations in the AI industry is intensifying. Both Anthropic and OpenAI are pursuing initial public offerings (IPOs). There are also projections that OpenAI’s valuation could reach as high as $1 trillion upon listing.
The surge in Anthropic’s valuation is attributed to the growing number of Claude’s enterprise customers and the company’s rising revenues. Earlier this month, Anthropic stated that its annualized revenue had surpassed $47 billion. Krishna Rao, Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), explained that this fundraising would help the company address rapidly increasing demand, expand research, and facilitate the adoption of Claude in the workplace.
Anthropic also announced plans to provide its top-tier AI model, “Claude Mythos,” to customers within the next few weeks—a model whose public release had previously been postponed. Mythos is known for its expert-level capabilities in detecting cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Anthropic had withheld its general release due to concerns that malicious users such as hackers could exploit it.
Anthropic stated, “A model with this level of capability requires even stronger cybersecurity measures prior to release,” and added that it is rapidly developing the necessary safeguards.
