During the Seoul mayoral TV debate, Kwon Youngguk, the Justice Party candidate, and Jeong Wonoh, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, expressed differing views on the introduction of a life partnership ordinance. While Kwon emphasized the necessity of enacting related legislation, Jeong advocated for a gradual approach.
At the TV debate hosted by the Seoul Election Broadcasting Debate Committee on the 28th, Kwon stated, "In our society, there are 'single-person households that are not really single-person households.' Even if someone’s life partner of several decades collapses, unless they are a legal family member, they cannot sign for emergency surgery." He continued, "According to a survey by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (Ministry of Gender Equality and Family), 80% of the public supports abolishing discrimination against relationships outside of legal marriage. Do you have plans to create a related ordinance?"

He added, "It would be better to address this issue step by step as needed. Rather than adopting a comprehensive ordinance, it would be more manageable to address essential cases individually." He further stated, "If this becomes an overarching ordinance, unnecessary controversy could arise, so it would be best to proceed cautiously while preserving the original intent."
