Gwangju's Largest Mixed-Use Project 'Champions City' to Break Ground in September... Shareholder Woomee Construction Steps In [Real Estate AtoZ]
Project Back on Track After Contractor Vacancy
Stability Strengthened Through PFV Shareholder Participation
Mixed-Use Complex with 4,315 Units Including The Hyundai
First Phase: 3,216 Units to Be Offered for Sale in the Second Half of This Year
Gwangju's largest mixed-use development project, 'All New Champions City,' has selected Woomee Construction as its primary contractor and is set to break ground in September 2026. The project is accelerating its pace by shifting to a structure in which the project's shareholders directly participate.
On May 28, Champions City Complex Development PFV, the project developer, announced that the project has been restructured so that its shareholders—real estate developer Shinyoung and Gwangju-based tier-1 construction company Woomee Construction—will participate as the asset management company (AMC) and contractor, respectively. Last year, the project suffered a contractor vacancy when POSCO E&C and Daewoo E&C withdrew in succession, but it has now returned to normal progress after about six months.

Champions City is a massive mixed-use development project that will build 4,315 residential units, The Hyundai Gwangju department store, a luxury hotel, and office and commercial facilities on the 298,000-square-meter (90,000-pyeong) site of the former Jeonbang and Ilshin Textile factories in Im-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.
At the heart of the complex, the 'Urban Core' concept will be applied, concentrating key urban functions—residential, commercial, office, and cultural—into a single high-density, integrated center. The goal is to create a pedestrian-oriented, self-sufficient city complex where residents can walk to the department store, parks, and office facilities within the site.
The flagship facility, the 'The Hyundai Gwangju' mall, with a scale 1.5 times larger than 'The Hyundai Seoul' in Yeouido, broke ground in November 2025 and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2029.
The first phase, undertaken by Woomee Construction, will consist of 12 buildings with three basement levels and 49 above-ground floors, totaling 3,216 units with dedicated areas ranging from 84 to 214 square meters. Of these, 2,534 units, or 78 percent of the total, will be the 84-square-meter type, which is highly preferred by end-users.
The complex will feature Gwangju's largest integrated community amenities, including a four-lane swimming pool, sky lounge, and sky guesthouse. High-end design elements such as three-sided open living rooms will also be incorporated.
The first phase units will be offered for sale in the second half of this year, with the model home to be set up on the project site.
