HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, currently participating as part of the "One Team" in Canada's submarine acquisition project, is accelerating its efforts to win the contract by strengthening cooperation with local shipyards.

View original imageOn May 28, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that it had discussed ways to expand cooperation in the shipbuilding and naval vessel business with Davie Shipbuilding in Canada. Executives from both companies met on the 26th (local time) at Davie Shipbuilding's Ottawa office to discuss naval vessel construction and technology collaboration.
The meeting was attended by Park Yongyeol, Head of the Ship Business Division at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and James Davies, CEO of Davie Shipbuilding. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries introduced its shipbuilding capabilities and K-submarine technology, and shared plans for cooperation to further develop Canada's shipbuilding industry.
Located in Quebec, Davie Shipbuilding is Canada's largest shipyard, specializing in the construction of icebreakers and naval support vessels. As it also owns Helsinki Shipyard in Finland as a subsidiary, it is expected that the partnership could expand to the Arctic market.
Executives from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also recently attended the arrival ceremony for the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho-class submarine at a Canadian naval base, as well as a reception hosted by the South Korean Ambassador to Canada, actively promoting the competitiveness of K-submarines.
Joo Wonho, President of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, stated, "We are in discussions to expand cooperation with major Canadian shipyards," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure the K-defense One Team wins the Canadian submarine project."

Previously, HD Hyundai had proposed a cooperation plan in the energy and shipbuilding sectors to win the Canadian submarine contract. The company also presented a multi-trillion-won offset proposal that includes importing Canadian crude oil through HD Hyundai Oilbank, transferring shipbuilding technology, and providing consulting on submarine operation and maintenance.
