LG Uplus Streamlines Rate Plans from 53 to 18... "Simplifies Entire Subscription and Usage Process"
Rate Plans Overhauled to Guarantee Basic Communication Rights
Age-Specific Benefits Now Applied Automatically
LG Uplus has begun an overhaul to simplify its Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and 5th-generation mobile network (5G) pricing structures. The company is improving its telecommunications services in line with the Ministry of Science and ICT’s initiative to guarantee basic communication rights.
On May 28, LG Uplus unveiled “Simply 2.0,” a comprehensive simplification of its entire process—including rate plans, sign-up, and usage—at an online press conference. The company based this revamp on more than 10,000 customer feedback submissions collected through its communication platform “Simple. Lab.”
LG Uplus introduced two integrated rate plans—“Data Plan” and “Plus Plan”—reducing its 53 existing 5G and LTE plans to 18. Previously, customers had to consider network type and age-specific benefits when selecting a plan, but now they can choose plans based solely on data allowance and speed. Furthermore, the new integrated plans incorporate a Data Safe Option (QoS) across all tiers, ensuring a certain level of speed is maintained even after a customer’s data allowance is depleted.
After a customer exhausts their monthly data allowance, the respective speeds are as follows: Data Plan 300MB (28,000 won/month) at 400Kbps; Data Plan 14GB (55,000 won/month) at 1Mbps; Data Plan 95GB (68,000 won/month) at 3Mbps; and Data Plan 125GB (70,000 won/month) at 5Mbps. For the Data Plan MAX and above, which start at 85,000 won per month, customers can use data without any speed restrictions.
Age-specific benefits are also now automatically applied. Previously, customers had to select specific plans for kids, teens, young adults, or seniors, but with the integrated plans, benefits change automatically according to the customer’s age, even after signing up for a general plan. For instance, when a teenage customer becomes an adult, the additional data benefit is automatically adjusted to fit their new age group.
Mobile and internet subscriptions have also been combined into a single product called “All-in-One.” Rather than signing up for mobile and internet separately and then applying for a bundled discount, customers can now sign up once to receive both wired and wireless services and enjoy bundled benefits. The previously fragmented discount and benefit structure is now consolidated for easier access and understanding.
LG Uplus is also launching “Nugget All-in-One,” a dedicated internet plan tailored for the All-in-One product. Nugget All-in-One offers the same speeds as existing internet plans, and when combined with a mobile rate plan, the bundled benefits are automatically applied without additional requests. In addition, LG Uplus has expanded its 5G roaming service coverage to 100 countries worldwide, including overseas territories, significantly increasing the number of available countries compared to before.
This overhaul of rate plans by LG Uplus is in line with the Ministry of Science and ICT’s policy to guarantee basic communication rights. Earlier this year, the ministry and the three major mobile carriers reached an agreement to launch integrated rate plans within the first half of the year. At a meeting with the CEOs of the three telecom companies held on April 9 at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam, Seoul, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyunghoon stated, "The three mobile carriers should proactively invest and lead the future of an AI-based society while contributing to public welfare through universal communication rights for all citizens."

LG Uplus plans to further simplify not only its integrated rate plans but also its subscription procedures and benefit designs. Lee Jaewon, Head of the Consumer Division at LG Uplus, commented, "Simply is an innovation initiative to transform complicated telecommunications into the easiest customer experience possible," adding, "We will continue to deliver innovations that customers can truly feel across all aspects of telecommunications."
