Iranian Media: "MOU Includes Lifting of Iranian Maritime Blockade"
US to Withdraw Troops from Around Iran
It has been reported that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) currently being negotiated between the United States and Iran for a ceasefire includes provisions to lift the Iranian maritime counter-blockade.
The Iranian state broadcaster reported on the 27th (local time) that it had obtained an unofficial draft of the MOU for a ceasefire currently under negotiation between the United States and Iran, and released some details.
According to the report, the draft includes provisions for the United States to withdraw its troops stationed around Iran and to lift the maritime blockade. It was left to future negotiations to decide whether the withdrawal would cover all existing troops stationed at U.S. bases in the Middle East, or only the forces additionally deployed due to the war.
In return, Iran promised to restore the number of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, excluding warships, to pre-war levels within one month of signing the memorandum of understanding. However, this is conditional on Iran overseeing and managing the shipping routes, with Oman cooperating in this process.
The state broadcaster reported that if a final agreement is reached within 60 days after the signing of the memorandum of understanding, it will be approved in the form of a United Nations Security Council resolution with binding force.
