In order to promote lifelong learning more effectively and enhance public recognition, the city has renamed the center within the Yangju 1-dong Complex Building as the 'Yangju Lifelong Learning Center' and reorganized it to function as a city-level lifelong learning institution.
Going forward, this venue will be actively utilized as a hub for learning and communication, including training citizen instructors and hosting special lectures by invited experts.
Currently, Yangju City operates two permanent lifelong learning facilities: the 'Okjeong Lifelong Learning Center' located in the basement of Okjeong Lake Library, and the 'Deokgye Lifelong Learning Center' on the fifth floor of the Hoecheon 2-dong Complex Building.
In addition, to improve citizens' access to lifelong learning, the city has designated and is operating several non-permanent lifelong learning centers: the Nam-myeon Lifelong Learning Center (Gamaksan Renaissance Center), the Deokjeong Lifelong Learning Center (Wagle Wagle Center), and the Gwangjeok Digital Lifelong Learning Center (Western Region Digital Capacity Enhancement Center).
The upcoming courses scheduled to open at the Yangju Lifelong Learning Center include: Urban Sketching in Everyday Life, Taking Portrait Photos with a Smartphone, Plant Drawing and Botanical Art, Calligraphy with Pastels, and 'Escape from Beginner! Real Basic English.'
In the future, the city plans to expand its offerings to include a diverse range of programs, not only in the humanities and arts, but also certification courses for second-career planning, and practical digital literacy training for seniors who may be at risk of digital exclusion.
