KOCCA Hosts K-Webtoon Expo in Spain... Achieves $20 Million in Business Consultations
In Collaboration with Comic Barcelona
Discussions on IP Partnerships with Major European Publishers
The Korea Creative Content Agency's Spain Business Center announced on the 27th that it hosted 'K-Webtoon in Spain' in Barcelona over a four-day period starting from the 14th.
This event was held in conjunction with 'Comic Barcelona', the largest comic event in Spain. Three K-Webtoon companies conducted 52 business consultations, achieving results worth approximately 20.17 million dollars.
DCCENT introduced works targeting European readers, such as 'This Marriage Is Bound to Fail Anyway', which is set against the backdrop of medieval Spanish culture, and 'For Daphne', a reinterpretation of Greek mythology. Tooned Entertainment showcased secondary content cases that expanded into drama, animation, and games, including 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Girl Who Sees Smells'.
The possibility of collaboration with local educational institutions was also explored. Major schools, including Escola Joso, expressed interest in the Korean webtoon production system and proposed joint program operations.
During meetings with major Spanish publishing groups such as Planeta, Penguin Random House, and Norma Editorial, discussions were held regarding simultaneous contracts for webtoons and web novels, as well as possibilities for related businesses such as merchandise and pop-up stores.
