Jindo County Launches Full-Scale Efforts to Expand the Resident Population
"1 Night 2 Days in Jindo, Experience and Discover Jindo" Project
Promoting Extended-Stay Tourism Linked with Local Businesses
Jindo County in South Jeolla Province is launching a regional revitalization project that links extended-stay tourism with the expansion of the resident population.
The county announced that it had secured a project budget of 100 million won after being selected for Jeollanam-do's "Increasing the Resident Population" public contest, and will implement the "1 Night 2 Days in Jindo, Experience and Discover Jindo" project.
This project is focused on increasing the "resident population"—those who spend time in the area, consume, and form relationships—rather than simply boosting the number of people registered as official residents.
The county explained that its strategy of creating extended-stay content by combining Jindo’s cultural and artistic assets, natural scenery, trendy shops popular with younger people, and youth startup spaces was highly evaluated during the selection process.
In particular, the plan is to encourage tourism, promotion, and consumption simultaneously by having visitors directly experience various parts of the region and spread their experiences as content on social media.
The county plans to select around 100 teams with skills in video production and social media to experience Jindo over 1 night and 2 days. After exploring cultural and artistic sites, natural scenery, local restaurants, and trendy venues, participants will create video content to be shared online.
Additionally, depending on the number of participants, the county has designed a system where each person will receive a travel subsidy in the form of Jindo Arirang vouchers, ranging from a minimum of 200,000 won to a maximum of 550,000 won, so that spending by outside tourists directly translates into sales for local businesses.
The county aims to leverage the viral nature of platforms such as YouTube and Instagram to boost the online presence of Jindo tourism.
Furthermore, it plans to connect visitors drawn in by the content to the resident population platform "JindoonGunmin," and to convert these visitors into long-term community members by continuously offering festivals, cultural events, and discount benefits.
