New CEO and Directors to Be Appointed at Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting
Profitability in Focus Amid Declining Satellite Broadcasting Subscribers
Seeking Growth Momentum Through New Businesses Like ipit TV
KT Skylife is set to formally implement its Ji Jeongyong-led CEO system. Amid a decline in satellite broadcasting subscribers, improving profitability has become a key challenge for the company.
On May 27 at 10 a.m., KT Skylife will hold an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to approve the appointments of new CEO Ji Jeongyong and outside directors Choi Sejoong and Kang Hyunggu. Immediately after the shareholders’ meeting, the board of directors will convene to finalize the procedures.
In March, KT Skylife faced instability as former CEO Jo Il resigned just four days after taking office. This confusion arose as its parent company, KT, underwent leadership changes and sought to better coordinate its group companies following the appointment of CEO Park Yoonyoung. Ji Jeongyong, CEO of KT cs, was named as the successor.
Ji Jeongyong is known for his extensive experience in various fields such as telecommunications, networks, and mobile distribution. He graduated from Chonnam National University with a degree in Materials Science and Engineering and earned a master's degree in IT Management from KAIST. At KT, he served as Head of Network Operations and Regional Director for Jeonnam and Jeonbuk. He has been CEO of KT cs since last year.
After taking office, Ji Jeongyong is expected to focus on strengthening profitability. During its Q1 2026 earnings conference call, KT Skylife emphasized three main tasks: business innovation, work innovation, and capacity innovation. The company highlighted its commitment to defending against the decline in satellite broadcasting subscribers while seeking new growth momentum through new businesses.
In reality, the number of satellite broadcasting subscribers dropped by more than 100,000 in one year, from 2,823,018 in the first half of 2024 to 2,725,230 in the first half of 2025. Consolidated revenue also declined, from 1.0256 trillion won in 2023 to 1.0229 trillion won in 2024 and 984.2 billion won in 2025. Revenue for the first quarter of this year was 239 billion won, down 1.6% year-on-year. However, operating profit increased by 16.2% due to cost reduction effects.

KT Skylife is working to overcome its growth slowdown by expanding 'ipit TV,' which utilizes KT's internet network, as well as its budget phone (MVNO) services. Ahn Jaemin, a researcher at NH Investment & Securities, commented, "Service revenue continues to decline due to the drop in satellite broadcasting subscribers, but telecommunications service revenue is growing thanks to an increase in mobile and high-speed internet subscribers. The expansion of SkyTV’s original content lineup and the increased competitiveness of bundled products based on high-speed internet resale and MVNO services are also positive factors."
