This junior golf championship, to be held for two days from June 11 at Leonette Country Club in Gokseong County, Jeollanam-do, is hosted by the Honam News Bureau of The Asia Business Daily and organized by the Gwangju Metropolitan Golf Association (GGA). Every year, a large number of promising young golfers who will lead the future of golf in Korea participate, earning the tournament nationwide prestige and authority as a cradle for junior golfers.

View original imageAt last year’s tournament, the emergence of a new generation of female golf stars and the spectacular rise of high school prospects created excitement in the golf world. Seong Haein (Gwangju Bomun High School), who claimed the women’s title, delivered a flawless performance with 7 birdies and no bogeys on the first day, ultimately winning the trophy with a final score of 8-under-par 134 strokes. Her precise putting and powerful drives reaching up to 240 meters showcased her potential as a next-generation golf star.
In the men’s division, Sang Hyeonjun (Daegu Kyungshin High School) wrote a dramatic story. Although he used to feel pressure with his putter, Sang Hyeonjun overcame this weakness through rigorous training and achieved his first official tournament victory with a final score of 8-under-par 134 strokes. Practicing every day after school to hone his competitive edge, Sang Hyeonjun is now preparing to earn his professional qualification and status this year, signaling the rise of yet another outstanding star produced by this tournament.
Having delivered thrilling matches every year, the Asia Business Daily Honam Cup Junior Golf Championship will once again see top-level youth golfers from all over the country compete this year. A total of 25 to 30 teams, comprising 100 to 120 players in both the men’s and women’s divisions, are expected to participate and showcase their talents.
The competition format is a 36-hole stroke play over two days (18 holes per day), with the player who records the lowest total score emerging as the winner. This means that players’ intense concentration and mental toughness will be key factors in determining the champion. How each player tackles the challenging course at Hwasun Country Club will also be a crucial point of interest for spectators.
Junior players wishing to participate can apply through the official website of the Gwangju Metropolitan Golf Association. The registration deadline is 4:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026. Awards will be presented separately for the men’s and women’s divisions, and the top five finishers in each category will receive scholarships and trophies in recognition of their achievements and to encourage their continued growth.
