World Menstrual Hygiene Day... Tempo's Efforts to Reduce 'Period Blind Spots'
Braille Packaging Introduced for Visually Impaired Women
Ongoing Support for Menstrual Products for Vulnerable Groups
As World Menstrual Hygiene Day approaches on May 28, corporate initiatives aimed at supporting women whose daily lives are affected by menstruation are coming into the spotlight.
According to industry sources on May 27, Tempo, the feminine care brand by Dong-A Pharmaceutical, has introduced Braille instructions on its signature product, the "Tampon Original" package. Beyond simply providing information, this enables users to independently select and use the product without relying on others. The initiative is rooted in the belief that freedom in menstrual health starts with accessible information for everyone.
For women with visual impairments, menstruation is seen as an issue that extends beyond hygiene and safety, potentially leading to social isolation. These women must detect changes through the feel or scent of their underwear. Since it is difficult to notice sudden leaks or changes in flow while outside, some opt to wear only dark clothing or even forgo going out altogether.
There is also a growing movement to actively support women from vulnerable groups. Menstrual products are not a luxury but a basic necessity for survival. For some, they represent a recurring monthly financial burden.

"Period poverty" has been identified as a problem that restricts women's rights to education, mobility, and broader social participation. Although there are ongoing initiatives to provide menstrual products to those in need, support often wanes once public attention fades.
Tempo has consistently continued its support for women in vulnerable groups by providing menstrual products. Since 2020, it has partnered with the international development cooperation NGO, G Foundation, to offer menstrual products to women in need.
The donated products from Tempo have been distributed to women through middle and high schools, as well as social welfare facilities. As of the first half of this year, the total value of donations has reached 382 million won, with 1.37 million items provided.
