"Busan Young Athletes on a Golden Run"... Busan Education Office Sets New Record at National Youth Sports Festival
45 Gold, 32 Silver, 47 Bronze on Day 3
A Total of 124 Medals Won
The Busan delegation, representing the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education (with Acting Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent Kanguk Lee), continues its upward momentum by setting a new all-time record at the 55th National Youth Sports Festival.
According to the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education on May 26, as of the third day of the competition (May 25), the Busan delegation had won a total of 124 medals, including 45 gold, 32 silver, and 47 bronze medals. This surpasses last year’s total of 105 medals and is on pace to set new records for both the most total medals and the most gold medals in the event's history.
In gymnastics, Yesung Cho (Yeogochu Elementary School, 6th grade) swept four gold medals in the boys' elementary all-around, floor, horizontal bar, and rings events, achieving four championships. He also added a silver medal in vault, leading the Busan team’s surge in the competition.
The streak of multiple titles and consecutive wins also continued. In judo, Nayun Kim (Daecheonri Middle School, 3rd grade) secured her fourth consecutive championship at the event. In taekwondo, Unhyeok Hwang (Yeongnam Middle School, 3rd grade) and in roller sports, Yeyoon Choi (Inji Elementary School, 6th grade), each achieved their second consecutive titles.
In the aerobic hip-hop event, Seojin Choi, Seeun Kim, Seoyeon Choi, and Yejin Seo (Shingok Middle School), along with Hamin Baek (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade), Suho Kim (Seongbuk Elementary School, 6th grade), and Seojeong Kim (Shingok Elementary School, 5th grade), achieved their second consecutive championship with outstanding teamwork.
In modern pentathlon, Lokyeom Gyeong and Jinwoo Kim (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade) won their second consecutive middle school boys' title. In the modern biathlon elementary boys’ relay, Junhyeon Park, Minjun Kang, and Yugeon Lee (Bonghak Elementary School, 6th grade) defied expectations and took first place, showing great potential for the future of Busan athletics.
In swimming, Chanseo Park (Naeseong Middle School, 3rd grade) secured the gold medal in the 200m butterfly and a silver medal in the 100m butterfly, demonstrating stable game management skills.
The achievements in weightlifting also stood out. Seoyoung Wang and Minseung Kim (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade) each swept the snatch, clean and jerk, and total, both becoming triple gold medalists. In particular, Seoyoung Wang set a new event record in the women’s under-81kg category with a snatch of 90kg and a total of 199kg, showcasing overwhelming skill. Seoeun Jo (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade) also contributed by adding gold, silver, and bronze medals, with the weightlifting team securing a total of nine medals.
In track and field, Gwanwoo Park (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade) achieved his second consecutive win in the boys’ middle school discus throw, recording 62.02 meters, repeating last year’s success. In the boys’ elementary shot put, Hyeonjun Son (Toseong Elementary School, 6th grade) threw 16.87 meters to win the gold medal. Notably, Son is an athlete who has been training for less than a year, raising expectations for his future growth.
In archery, Minhyeok Park (Mora Middle School, 3rd grade) took gold in the boys’ middle school 60m event. Kyupil Park (Busan Physical Education Middle School, 3rd grade) demonstrated excellent skill by winning silver medals in the 40m, 50m, and 60m events, and a bronze medal in the 30m event.
The Busan delegation also performed strongly in the team events. In girls’ elementary volleyball, Sujeong Elementary School advanced to the finals by sweeping Pajang Elementary School (Gyeonggi) 2-0 in the semifinals. In boys’ elementary volleyball, Geummyeong Elementary School also reached the finals after a hard-fought victory over Suseong Elementary School (Daegu).
Additionally, in boys’ elementary baseball, Suyeong Elementary School; in girls’ middle school basketball, Dongju Girls’ Middle School; and in boys’ elementary handball, Sungji Elementary School each won bronze medals, further boosting the performance of the Busan team.

The Busan delegation plans to continue its momentum in the latter half of the event, aiming for a top overall ranking and vowing to continue their "golden run."
