Second Round of High Oil Price Relief Fund Applications Reach 76% in Five Days
Cumulative Payments for Rounds 1 and 2 Reach 5 Trillion Won
The government's second round of high oil price relief fund applications reached a 76% rate just five days after payments began. The combined total number of applicants for both the first and second rounds of support has reached 28 million.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on May 23, as of midnight the previous day, the total number of applicants for the first and second rounds of high oil price relief funds was 27,888,822. This represents 77.62% of all eligible recipients (35,929,596 people), and the cumulative payment amount stands at 5.0455 trillion won. For the first round of support, which targeted basic livelihood security recipients, the near-poor, and single-parent families, 3,075,000 people applied, posting a 95.2% application rate. The payment amount for the first round totals 1.7459 trillion won.
For the second round, 24,814,000 people applied, resulting in a 75.9% application rate. The payment amount is 3.2996 trillion won. The second round of the relief fund targets the bottom 70% of income earners nationwide. During the application period for the second round, those who were eligible but did not apply for the first round can also submit their applications.
By payment method, the cumulative total for both rounds shows credit and debit cards were the most common, used by 19,380,786 recipients. This was followed by local government gift certificates in mobile or card form (4,479,338 recipients), prepaid cards (3,555,671 recipients), and local government gift certificates in paper form (473,027 recipients).

By region, cumulative application rates for both rounds were highest in Sejong at 80.97%, followed by Daejeon (80.42%), Gwangju (80.15%), and Busan (80.13%). Jeju recorded the lowest rate at 74.39%.
