Seoul Mayoral Race Neck and Neck: Jung Wonoh 42%, Oh Sehoon 44.8%

With the June 3 local elections approaching, a recent poll shows that Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate, is leading Jung Won-oh, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, within the margin of error in the Seoul mayoral race.
According to a survey conducted by pollster Researchwell at the request of New Daily from May 20 to 21 among 977 Seoul residents aged 18 and over, Jung recorded 42.0% support, while Oh received 44.8%.
Kim Seong-cheol, the Reform New Party candidate, garnered 2.1%, 'other candidates' 2.6%, 'no preferred candidate' 6.1%, and 'don't know' 2.4%.
Breaking down support by age group, Jung received 30.1% among those aged 18-29, 29.0% in their 30s, 58.5% in their 40s, 57.7% in their 50s, 41.0% in their 60s, and 35.3% among those 70 or older. Oh recorded 45.8% among those aged 18-29, 57.1% in their 30s, 27.9% in their 40s, 38.4% in their 50s, 48.2% in their 60s, and 51.2% among those 70 or older.
By region within Seoul, in Area 1 (Jongno-gu, Jung-gu, Yongsan-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, Seodaemun-gu, Mapo-gu), Jung received 43.0% and Oh 40.1%. In Area 2 (Seongdong-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Jungnang-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Dobong-gu, Nowon-gu), Jung had 42.2% and Oh 43.1%. In Area 3 (Yangcheon-gu, Gangseo-gu, Guro-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Dongjak-gu, Gwanak-gu), both Jung and Oh recorded 43.9%. In Area 4 (Seocho-gu, Gangnam-gu, Songpa-gu, Gangdong-gu), Jung received 38.4% and Oh 52.0%.
Regarding opinions on Jung's explanation concerning past assault allegations, 43.6% responded that 'further clarification is needed.' Meanwhile, 17.8% said 'the explanation was sufficient,' and 18.9% viewed it as 'political negative campaigning and see no need for clarification.' 'Don't know' accounted for 19.7%.
On approval ratings for the president's administration, 54.1% of Seoul citizens responded positively, while 39.5% responded negatively. Specifically, 32.0% said 'doing very well,' 22.1% said 'doing fairly well,' 26.8% said 'doing very poorly,' 12.7% said 'not doing well,' and 6.5% responded 'don't know.'
In the same survey, when asked about party support, 41.0% of Seoul citizens supported the Democratic Party of Korea and 36.8% supported the People Power Party—a gap of 4.2 percentage points, within the margin of error. Additionally, the Reform New Party had 4.7%, the Cho Kuk Innovation Party 2.0%, and the Progressive Party 1.4%. 'Other parties' accounted for 2.7%, 'none' was 10.2%, and 'don't know' 1.2%.

This opinion poll used virtual mobile numbers provided by the three major mobile carriers. The survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire via automated response system (ARS, 100% mobile), with a response rate of 5.9% and a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
