[6.3 Election] Park Hongryul Urges Kim Won to Resign from National Assembly over Failed Main Administrative Complex Bid
"Must Take Responsibility for Failure to Secure Main Administrative Complex in Naman"
Park Hongryul, candidate for mayor of Mokpo from the National Innovation Party, has called for the resignation of Assemblyman Kim Won of the Democratic Party of Korea over the failed attempt to attract the main administrative complex of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City to Naman.
On the morning of the 22nd, Park Hongryul, candidate for Mokpo mayor, held a press conference and urged Representative Kim Won to resign following the failed bid to attract the West Regional Public Prosecutors' Office. Photo provided by the election camp

He stated, "At the initial stage of discussions on the special law for administrative integration, led by the Democratic Party of Korea, the first draft suggested a balanced operation of the Muan Complex, Gwangju Complex, and Suncheon Eastern Complex to minimize administrative vacancy and costs, and proposed locating the main administrative complex, where the special mayor works, in Muan, Jeonnam."
He continued, "However, in just one day, the most contentious issue—the location of the main administrative complex—was not specified in the special law but instead delegated to the authority of the mayor of the integrated metropolitan city. Residents in the southwestern region of Jeonnam are now concerned that Naman, which used to be the administrative center of Jeonnam, will decline further and the Gwangju-centered system will accelerate."
Candidate Park also criticized Assemblyman Kim Won's recent remarks at the opening ceremony of candidate Kang Seonghui's election office, where Kim stated, "If candidate Kang is not elected this time, I will not run in the next general election."
He pointed out, "It is wrong for a lawmaker, elected by the votes of Mokpo citizens, to risk his political career not on longstanding regional projects, but on the outcome of a local government election. Such statements misuse the voters' choice for party interests."
Candidate Park further asserted, "During the nomination process for the June 3 local elections, the Democratic Party of Korea's Jeonnam Provincial Chapter has caused outrage among Mokpo citizens with nominations that are difficult to accept. There was also controversy over the leakage of personal information of registered party members during the previous 8th popular election primary."
