On May 22, the second day of official campaigning for the 9th nationwide local elections, the leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties continued their election campaigns in regions such as Chungcheong and Gyeonggi Province.
Jeong Cheongrae, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, along with the party leadership, began the day's schedule by greeting commuters in front of the main gate of SK hynix Cheongju 3 Campus in Cheongju, Chungbuk Province, together with Shin Yonghan, candidate for Governor of Chungbuk Province, and Lee Jangseop, candidate for Mayor of Cheongju, among others.

View original imageChairman Jeong presided over the Central Election Countermeasures Committee meeting in Cheongju that day, saying, “Seeing the workers I met on their way to work at SK hynix in Cheongju greet me with gentle smiles, I was once again reminded of how crucial attracting a large corporation can be for the prosperity, growth, and wellbeing of a city.”
He added, “I have heard that Lee Sijong, Co-Permanent Election Committee Chairman at the party headquarters, made significant efforts during his tenure as Governor of Chungbuk Province by personally writing to SK Chairman Chey Tae-won and encouraging investment in Cheongju.”
After moving on to Chungju, Chairman Jeong campaigned in support of Shin Yonghan, candidate for Governor of Chungbuk Province, and Maeng Jeongseop, candidate for Mayor of Chungju, before heading to Gangwon Province in the afternoon.

View original imageJang Donghyuk, Standing Election Countermeasures Committee Chair of the People Power Party, commented on the closely contested Seoul mayoral race on May 22, stating, “To continue living as a citizen of Seoul, you should choose Mayor Oh Sehoon, who will protect your home.” Regarding suspicions of missing rebar at the GTX-A Samsung Station and President Lee Jaemyung’s involvement, he remarked, “Ultimately, even the president has become a campaigner for Candidate Jeong.”
However, it remains uncertain whether Chair Jang will campaign in Seoul. Chief Spokesperson Choi Boyun told reporters, “There are currently no scheduled events for Chair Jang in Seoul.”
Instead, Chair Jang plans to continue supporting campaigns in southern Gyeonggi Province, visiting Anyang, Suwon, and Ansan in succession.

Separately, Song Eonseok, Co-Election Committee Chair and a key figure within the party, will visit Ulsan—considered a party stronghold—to campaign in support of Kim Dookyum, candidate for Mayor of Ulsan, and Kim Taekyu, candidate for National Assembly member for Ulsan Nam-gu Gap.
