Cheongsong County Election Commission Files Complaint Against Local Councilor for Donation to Unattended Church
The Cheongsong County Election Commission in North Gyeongsang Province announced on May 19 that it had filed a complaint with the Uiseong Branch of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office against Councilor A of the Cheongsong County Council. Councilor A is accused of making a donation at a church he does not regularly attend.

An official from the North Gyeongsang Election Commission stated, "Councilor A, who is both a current member of the Cheongsong County Council and a candidate in the upcoming Cheongsong County Council election scheduled for June 3, is suspected of having visited a church he does not regularly attend twice in March and April and making donations totaling 150,000 won (100,000 won on one occasion and 50,000 won on another occasion)."
According to Article 113, Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act, candidates (including those intending to become candidates) and their spouses are prohibited from making donations to any individuals, organizations, institutions, or facilities within the constituency, or even outside the constituency if they have ties to residents of the constituency. Violations of this regulation are punishable under Article 257, Paragraph 1 of the same law by imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 10 million won.
