49 Metropolitan Mayors and Governors, 47 Superintendents of Education Registered
As of 8:00 p.m. on May 14, the first day of candidate registration for the 9th nationwide local elections and National Assembly by-elections scheduled for June 3, a total of 6,833 people had submitted their registration documents. Of these, 4,243 candidates have completed the entire registration process.
According to the National Election Commission’s tally, the overall average competition ratio for registered candidates was 1.0 to 1.
Candidate registration will be conducted over two days starting from this date. Candidates who complete their registration will be able to officially campaign from May 21 until the day before election day, June 2. In this local election, a total of 4,227 local officials will be elected, including 16 metropolitan mayors and governors, 16 superintendents of education, 227 basic district heads, 933 metropolitan council members, and 3,035 basic council members.
By election unit, 49 people registered as candidates for metropolitan mayor and governor, resulting in a competition ratio of 1.9 to 1. For the superintendent of education election, 47 candidates completed registration, with a competition ratio of 2.0 to 1. In the basic district head election, 513 people registered, recording a competition ratio of 1.6 to 1. For metropolitan council members, 1,482 candidates registered, resulting in a competition ratio of 1.2 to 1, while for basic council members, 3,973 candidates registered, recording a competition ratio of 0.9 to 1.

In the proportional representation elections, 226 metropolitan proportional candidates registered, resulting in a competition ratio of 0.7 to 1. For basic proportional representation, there were 508 candidates, with a competition ratio of 0.8 to 1. Alongside the local elections, National Assembly by-elections will also be held in 14 locations nationwide. For the National Assembly by-elections, 35 candidates completed registration, with a competition ratio of 1.4 to 1.
