Gwangju Three Women Murder Lifelong Prisoner Found Dead at Haenam Prison
Killed Three Family Members in 2014, Sentenced to Life
Believed to Have Died by Suicide
It was belatedly revealed that a man who murdered three members of a family in a fit of rage took his own life while serving a life sentence in prison.
According to the Ministry of Justice on May 14, Mr. A (in his 40s), who had been sentenced to life imprisonment for the "Gwangju Three Women Murder Case," was found dead in a detention ward at Haenam Prison in March.
Mr. A had been given a final life sentence for murdering three members of a family—a woman he was acquainted with (in her 40s at the time), her mother, and her daughter—at an apartment in Seo-gu, Gwangju on September 29, 2014.
Mr. A bought a flower basket and visited the victim's home, but ended up in an argument. In a fit of rage, he killed the victim, and then murdered the other family members one by one out of fear that his crime would be discovered.
Correctional authorities determined that Mr. A died by suicide.
