Kang Ki-yoon’s Campaign: “Changwon Citizens Do Not Want a Cowardly ‘Flip-Flopping Mayor’”
In January, called for a “resident referendum including the separation of Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae”
By May, criticizes it as “divisive”

The election campaign committee for Kang Ki-yoon, the People Power Party’s candidate for mayor of Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, strongly criticized Song Sun-ho, the Democratic Party candidate, on May 14 for reversing his stance on the issue of unified Changwon. The committee urged, “If you are willing to deny your own position from just yesterday for the sake of votes, you must immediately stop this duplicitous behavior.”

However, this is in clear contradiction to the statement Song himself made in a media interview just four months ago, representing a blatant act of self-denial.
In a media interview on January 22, Song remarked, “I originally opposed unification, and even now I believe separation would be better.” He also made a bold proposal, saying that if elected mayor, he would “keep all options open, including separation, and be willing to put it to a resident referendum.”
In response, the election committee stated, “When you make a bold proposal, but when an opposition candidate does it, it’s ‘divisive’? How can a candidate who reverses his convictions in just four months be entrusted with governing a city of one million people? The citizens of Changwon do not want a cowardly ‘flip-flopping mayor.’”

Kang Ki-yoon’s campaign committee called on Song to “reflect on his own inconsistent words and zigzagging conduct before condemning the process of public discussion, which is the citizens’ legitimate right, as ‘politically motivated.’” The committee demanded that Song apologize to the public and take full responsibility, including considering resignation from his candidacy.
