Samsung Performance Bonus Negotiations Break Down... PM Kim: "Support Needed to Prevent Strike"
Government Convenes Emergency Meeting of Key Ministers
As the labor-management negotiations at Samsung Electronics over performance-based bonuses ultimately broke down, the government has stepped in to discuss possible responses.
On the morning of May 13, Prime Minister Minseok Kim held an 'Emergency Cabinet Meeting on the Samsung Electronics Strike' at his office in the Government Complex Seoul. He received reports from Minister of Employment and Labor Younghoon Kim and Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Sinhak on the results of the post-mediation process, which continued until early that morning.
Prime Minister Kim expressed regret over the breakdown of the post-mediation process, even after the government's intervention, and said, "Under no circumstances should this lead to a strike. Please actively support continued dialogue between labor and management." He further emphasized, "Given the significant impact on the national economy, the government will closely monitor and manage the situation."
