Real Estate Services Show 'Poor' Business Outlook Across All Sectors
Official statistics have revealed that the majority of workers in the real estate services industry assessed business conditions in the first quarter of this year as unfavorable. The outlook for the second quarter is also pessimistic.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's business survey for the real estate services industry in the first quarter of this year, published on May 8, the Business Survey Index (BSI) for current business conditions was recorded at 62.7. The BSI is a sentiment indicator that quantifies each company's overall perception of business conditions; a score above 100 indicates optimism, while a score below 100 indicates pessimism. The outlook for the second quarter was also 63.2, suggesting that conditions are not expected to improve significantly in the near future.
By sector, the BSI was relatively higher for management services at 90.7, information and technology services at 84.6, leasing services at 84.0, and appraisal services at 80.2. In contrast, it was lower for development services at 45.8, brokerage services at 34.3, and consulting services at 29.3.
The Industry Business Survey Index (BSI), which measures internal business sentiment by sector within specific industries, also stood at 60.3 across all sectors. The BSI for the second quarter is expected to decline further to 60.2. Information and technology services, management services, and leasing services scored above 80, while consulting services, brokerage services, and development services fell below 50.

This index was designated as a national official statistic in November of last year and was released for the first time with this announcement. The survey targets a sample of 3,000 businesses with at least one employee in the real estate services industry to assess business sentiment and outlook. Woojin Jung, Director of Land Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "With the first nationally approved BSI statistics for the real estate services industry, we have established a statistical foundation to regularly and systematically provide business sentiment and outlook by sector."
