Teachers' Union Launches Policy Proposal Website for Preliminary Candidates
Over 30 Topics Including Integrity, Teacher and Curriculum Policies
A civic group focused on education in Gwangju has created a communication channel to propose a policy agreement to the preliminary candidates for superintendent of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City.
According to the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City Teachers' Union on May 6, the union launched a website on this day that allows users to propose policies to the preliminary candidates for superintendent of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City.
The website is structured so that the union informs candidates of various policy agreement topics, and the candidates can sign the agreement online. The policy agreement topics are divided into about 30 categories, including fair elections, integrity, teacher policy, curriculum policy, and the rights of students and parents. Candidates can select the topics they wish to endorse and sign the corresponding policy agreements.
Through the policy agreement bulletin board, voters can quickly check which policies each candidate intends to pursue. The teachers' union has made it possible for any citizen to check which candidates have signed each policy agreement.
In addition, the teachers' union is simultaneously running a campaign called "Superintendent Election! How about asking teachers and then voting?" to raise awareness of the election among ordinary citizens and to promote it as a policy-focused election.
