On the Eve of Children's Day... 2-Year-Old Randomly Assaulted by Adult Man in Park in Broad Daylight
"Unable to Leave Home After Assailant Was Released"
A Nightmare That Never Ends
On the day before Children's Day (May 5), a 2-year-old child was assaulted by an adult man at a park, prompting a police investigation.
On May 5, Yonhap News Agency reported that the Bupyeong Police Station in Incheon had booked a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, without detention on suspicion of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act. Mr. A is accused of assaulting a 2-year-old boy, referred to as B, at a park in Bupyeong District, Incheon, at approximately 3:55 p.m. on May 4, the day before Children's Day.
According to the investigation, Mr. A, who has a disability, struck the back of B's head forcefully while the child was running to chase pigeons. Due to the force of the blow, B fell forward with his face hitting the ground and sustained injuries. Mr. A reportedly attempted to leave the scene but was apprehended by B's father and handed over to the police.

It happened in just half a second while I was about 5 to 6 meters behind, watching our dog." They continued, "Our child's forehead hit the ground, resulting in swelling and blood blisters." They also wrote, "When I chased after the assailant, he was walking as if nothing had happened, holding a cup of coffee from a vending machine. When I caught up to him, at first he gestured that he could neither hear nor speak, appearing wronged. When I called the police and kept holding onto him, he attempted to throw coffee at my face and repeatedly made gestures as if to punch me." The parents added, "After being questioned, the assailant was allowed to return home. Our family is now afraid to leave the house, not knowing when he might appear in the neighborhood again. On Children's Day, a lifelong nightmare has begun."
