Blue House Confirms No Korean Crew Injured in Hormuz Strait Vessel Incident
The Office of the President stated on May 4 that regarding intelligence on a South Korean vessel being attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, "We are currently investigating the cause of the fire on the vessel," adding, "It has been confirmed that there are no casualties among the South Korean crew members at this time."
Earlier, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said, "Our consulate is currently verifying whether our vessel was attacked," and added, "So far, we have initially confirmed that there are no casualties among South Korean nationals."
According to the government, at around 8:40 p.m. KST on the same day, an explosion followed by a fire occurred on a vessel operated by a South Korean shipping company that was anchored in waters near the United Arab Emirates inside the Strait of Hormuz.
It has been confirmed that there were six South Korean crew members and eighteen foreign crew members on board the vessel.
