Indicted for Attempting to Set Nephew on Fire Over Inheritance Dispute: Man in His 50s
Accused of Attempting Murder After Dousing Victim with Flammable Substance
It was belatedly revealed that a man in his 50s was indicted and detained for attempting to kill his nephew by dousing him with a flammable substance and setting him on fire.
According to Yonhap News Agency on May 4, the Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office detained and indicted a man in his 50s, referred to as A, on charges including attempted murder on April 14. A is accused of pouring a flammable substance on his nephew, identified as B, and attempting to kill him by setting him on fire on the morning of December 14 last year.
Police investigations found that A committed the crime following a conflict with B over inheritance issues, and it was also found that he set fire to his own house afterwards.
After taking over the case, the prosecution discovered that the police had illegally collected evidence by preparing a list of seized items without a warrant and failing to provide it to A, and therefore requested a supplementary investigation.
