Samsung Card Selected as Mobile ID Participant... To Be Available on 12 Apps Next Year
Comprehensive Evaluation Based on Security, Reliability, and Activation Plans
This year, Samsung Card has been finally selected as the private sector participant for the mobile ID program.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on May 4 that Samsung Card was chosen as the final participant for the "2026 Mobile ID Private Sector Program" through a public contest that was held for a month starting in March. The selection committee, comprised of seven experts, conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on security level, personal information protection measures, reliability, response system for incidents, and activation plans.
Samsung Card plans to immediately begin building the system to integrate mobile ID into its proprietary application, "Monimo." After undergoing a suitability assessment by the evaluation agency, the company will officially launch the service.
With this selection, in addition to the existing government app and six private apps currently in service, four bank apps (Woori, Hana, Shinhan, and Industrial Bank of Korea) scheduled for release in October, as well as Samsung Card, will be added. As a result, starting next year, users will be able to choose from a total of 12 apps, including the ones they use most frequently, to issue and use their mobile ID.
