Public outrage has erupted after a post revealed that a "kitchen sink drain cover" was found in a soybean paste stew at a restaurant near Mungyeong Saejae in North Gyeongsang Province, and the customer received no remedial action despite complaining.
An allegation has been raised that a "sink drain cover" was found inside a doenjang jjigae ordered at a restaurant near Mungyeong Saejae in Gyeongbuk.

On May 2, an online community, Bobae Dream, featured a post titled "Specialty Dish with a Sink Cover in Soybean Paste Stew in Front of Mungyeong Saejae."
The author, identified as A, recounted that after enjoying the Mungyeong Saejae Festival with family, they visited a nearby restaurant and ordered a grilled salted mackerel set meal.
A explained, "But we found a piece of steel scrubber in the mackerel,so I told the owner. The owner asked, 'Would you like us to make it again?' When I declined, the owner said, 'I'll deduct it from the bill,' and then went back into the kitchen."
A continued, "Then, something even more unbelievable came out in the soybean paste stew: the cover of a kitchen sink drain." The photo shared by the author showed a kitchen sink drain cover inside the hot pot of soybean paste stew.
A stated, "I confronted them, but they only said, 'You don't have to pay, just leave. If you get a stomachache, you can make a claim.' When we made a fuss, the restaurant put up a sign at the entrance saying 'All seats are reserved.'"
He added,"Right after we left, they removed the sign and resumed normal business,and I can't believe it wasn't just some random object or insect, but a kitchen sink drain cover in the food. It was a disgusting day," expressing his frustration.

Meanwhile, when foreign objects are found in food, consumers can report it through the Food Safety Korea website operated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Photos, videos, or other evidence should be attached when filing a report. Depending on the investigation, the Ministry may order corrective action or business suspension for restaurants found to be in violation of the Food Sanitation Act.
