It also includes commitments to cooperate in revitalizing the regional economy and safeguarding Daegu and Gyeongbuk, the heartland of conservatism.
Candidate Choo explained the reason for their visit, saying, "Before the official start of the election campaign, we visited the birthplace of former President Park Chunghee, who led Korea's economic growth and industrialization, to reaffirm our resolve." He added, "With a 'one team' spirit, we will work together to further develop Daegu and Gyeongbuk and firmly protect this conservative stronghold. We will strengthen the power of the conservative party and lay the groundwork for victory in the next general and presidential elections."
Regarding the significance of the joint declaration, candidate Lee emphasized, "The new airport and administrative integration are joint priorities for Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and it is imperative that the city and province pursue them for the sake of future generations."
On forming a joint election committee for Daegu and Gyeongbuk, he said, "Under current election law, election committees must be formed separately by city and province," but added, "We actively plan to carry out joint campaigns and cooperation between the candidates."
About 500 people, including People Power Party lawmakers, local election candidates, and supporters, attended the event.
