Democratic Party: "Unification in Pyeongtaek-eul? Not the Time to Discuss... Nullification of Yanggu County Nomination in Gangwon"
Yanggu Designated as a Strategic Constituency for Candidate Re-nomination
Decision on Suncheon Mayor, Jongno, and Gangbuk District Heads to Be Made on the 30th After Investigation
On April 29, the Democratic Party of Korea nullified its nomination for the head of Yanggu County, Gangwon Province. The party dismissed the possibility of unifying candidates with other pro-government groups in districts such as Pyeongtaek-eul, stating, "This is not the time to discuss that."
Junhyun Kang, Senior Spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, told reporters after the Supreme Council meeting on this day, "We have decided to invalidate the nomination for the Yanggu County head constituency in Gangwon Province for the 9th nationwide local elections. The region will be designated as a strategic constituency to allow for a new candidate recommendation."

Regarding the Pyeongtaek-eul constituency in Gyeonggi Province and the potential unification of pro-government candidates, Kang drew a clear line. He said, "It seems the issue of candidate unification is being discussed a lot in Pyeongtaek-eul, but it is not the time to talk about unification yet." He continued, "We are focusing on winning under the Democratic Party's name and will do our utmost to ensure the election of the Democratic Party candidate." In Pyeongtaek-eul, besides former lawmaker Yongnam Kim, who was strategically nominated by the Democratic Party, other candidates from the broader pro-government camp, such as Joukook, leader of the Joukook Innovation Party, and Jaeyeon Kim, Standing Representative of the Progressive Party, are also running.
