Netmarble's 'The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin' Mobile Succeeds in Japan... PC and Console Also See Strong Performance
Mobile Sales Surpass USD 10 Million
Japan Leads Both Downloads and Revenue
Strong Preference for Animation IP, Major Update Drives Growth
Combined PC and Console Sales Reach 1.8 Million Copies
The mobile version of Netmarble's open-world action role-playing game (RPG), 'The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin,' has achieved early box office success, particularly in Japan. Following a recent large-scale update for PC and console, user numbers have surged, resulting in strong performance across all platforms.
According to Sensor Tower on April 29, the mobile version of 'The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin' surpassed USD 10 million in cumulative sales as of April 27, roughly one month after its launch. Total cumulative downloads reached 2 million.
Performance was especially notable in Japan. By country, the share of downloads was highest in Japan (17.8%), followed by the United States (13.5%), Brazil (6.7%), and Thailand (6.4%). In terms of revenue, Japan accounted for a dominant 49.8%, followed by Korea (11.7%), the United States (10.8%), and France (6.2%). This strong performance in Japan is attributed to the high preference for and purchasing power regarding animation intellectual property (IP) among Japanese users.
The game also benefited significantly from content updates. The major version 1.2 update, released on April 23, added one of the universe's most powerful characters, 'Escanor,' as well as new regions and an equipment system. On mobile, daily sales reached approximately USD 510,000 just two days after the update, on April 25.
On PC and consoles such as Steam and PlayStation 5 (PS5), the update led to a significant return of users. On Steam, the number of concurrent users increased by about four times on the update day compared to the previous day, while on PS5, the number of daily active users reportedly grew more than eightfold. A Netmarble representative stated, "By 9:00 a.m. the day after the update, the game ranked 5th globally among Steam bestsellers and secured 1st place in France, Italy, and Belgium, 2nd in Japan, and 3rd in Germany, ranking high in major countries. The game is showing strong results in various regions."
Since launch, a total of 1.8 million copies (800,000 on Steam and 1 million on PS5) have been sold on PC and consoles. So far this year, the combined cumulative sales of the RPG genre on Steam and PS5 rank third. Steam performed strongest in Europe (41%) and South America (27%), while PS5 found popularity in North America (47%) and Europe (28%).
