Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Holds Seminar on "Impact of Aging on the Insurance Industry and Response Measures"
On April 28, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced that it had held a seminar titled "Impact of Aging on the Insurance Industry and Response Measures" to analyze the effects of rapid population aging on the domestic insurance industry and to explore future strategies.
The seminar, held on April 21, brought together key experts from major research institutions and academia, including Professor Yoo Jusun of Kangnam University, as well as the Korea Insurance Research Institute and the Korea Development Institute, who participated as panelists for in-depth discussions. Professor Yoo, who led the presentation, stated, "With the increase in life expectancy, population aging is accelerating, making an expansion of national healthcare spending inevitable. As a result, the fiscal burden on both public and private insurance will become even heavier." He added, "To ensure the sustainability of relevant systems, including curbing excessive use of medical services, close cooperation among academia, policymakers, industry, and civil society is essential. From a long-term perspective, it is also time to consider introducing new systems such as health savings accounts."
During the subsequent panel discussion, the importance of strengthening the preventive healthcare function of insurance and driving a shift in social awareness to address the excessive use of medical services for minor illnesses was emphasized. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the future response of insurers and their social roles based on these points.
