Since 2024, Samsung Electronics has been conducting a coral reef restoration project leveraging Galaxy camera technology in collaboration with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and the U.S.-based nonprofit organization SeaTrees.
Photos of coral reefs collected using Galaxy AI phones are sent to the Scripps Institution, where they are used to create 3D coral reef restoration models. Local activity groups carry out coral reef restoration work based on the research outcomes.
For this project, Samsung Electronics developed "Ocean Mode" in 2024, optimizing it for underwater photography.
Ocean Mode reduces excessive blue tones that occur during underwater shooting, allowing the true colors of the coral reefs to be captured. It also minimizes motion blur and, by utilizing the interval feature, enables the capture of thousands of high-resolution images at once.
Users of the Galaxy S26 series can access Ocean Mode within the "Expert RAW" app.
