Ahn's aides announced that, following health deterioration and on the recommendation of Jo Jeong-sik, Special Political Adviser to the President, as well as medical staff, Ahn was urgently transported to Noksaek Hospital in Jungnang-gu, Seoul at around 1:40 p.m. on the same day.

Previously, Lee Wontaeck was accused of having meal expenses covered using the Jeonbuk Provincial Council card and Assemblywoman Kim Seulji's card after dining with about 20 young people, including Assemblywoman Kim Seulji, at a restaurant in Jeonbuk last year. Although the Democratic Party's Ethics Inspection Team ordered an emergency review into the allegations against Lee, they concluded there was "no evidence of wrongdoing." On April 10, Lee Wontaeck won the primary against Ahn and became the final candidate for Jeonbuk governor.
On the same day, Lee Unju, Senior Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party, visited the site of the hunger strike and said, "Even if I concede a hundred times and do not agree with the issue of fairness in the primary, it is deeply discouraging that the party leader has not visited the hunger strike site even once or offered a handshake while a party member is on a hunger strike."

Supreme Council Member Kang Deukgu also commented, "Even if on-site Supreme Council meetings are important, is it right for the party leader to ignore a fellow member who has been on a hunger strike for more than ten days? I do not agree with the party leader's conduct in this matter."
