Baedal Minjok Cuts 90,000 Tons of Greenhouse Gases with Disposable Item Opt-Out Feature
Eco-Friendly Promotion Launched for Earth Day
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on April 22 that it will conduct a promotion for customers who opt not to receive disposable spoons and forks and for those who order with reusable containers, in commemoration of Earth Day. This event was planned to encourage participation in eco-friendly activities and to reduce unnecessary plastic use, as the prices of disposable products have risen amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.
First, through April 28, Baedal Minjok will select 3,000 customers who choose the "No Disposable Spoons or Forks" option when placing their order and provide them with a 5,000 won discount coupon that can be used for food delivery orders.
Baedal Minjok introduced the "No Disposable Spoons or Forks" feature in 2019, and in 2021, set it as the default option to enhance its effectiveness. It is estimated that this feature has helped reduce approximately 10.2 billion pieces of disposable tableware as of last year.
In order to measure the impact of introducing the "No Disposable Spoons or Forks" option, Baedal Minjok developed a "Disposable Products Use Reduction Business Methodology," which has been certified by the Carbon Reduction Certification Center of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Based on this measurement, it was found that the feature reduced approximately 20,000 tons of greenhouse gases last year alone. The cumulative amount of greenhouse gas reduced between 2022 and 2025 is estimated to reach 90,000 tons.
